The Lowrance family built their Spanish-style home in 1882 on a high bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River. Legend has it, they chose a sturdy stone structure that would protect them from the Indian attacks that had taken their first two log houses at the same location. As their sawmill business grew and the Lowrances became community leaders, they envisioned a larger, more welcoming home. The expansion done in 1900 was meant to make the home the finest in eastern Kerr County, and it was. With its 4000 square feet of living space and 1000 square feet of covered arched porches, it remains one of the Hill Country's finest historical homes. It represents the quality of the time with its long-leaf pine floors, 20 inch thick walls, hammered copper door hardware and native-stone fireplace within the Bed and Breakfast in Texas Hill Country .

Alonzo Rees was partners with Miles Lowrance, the original builder of the home.
